High-pressure injection

Objective:

In the sub-project "High-pressure injection of alternative diesel fuels" of the joint project Competence in MObility in research focus Automotive at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg,to find the advantages of extremely high injection pressure in combination with alternative diesel fuels in terms of a consumption and emissions (CO2, particulate matter and nitrogen oxides ) to be examined.
Using a high pressure pump and a pressure-boosted internal injectors, injection pressures up to 3500 bar can be produced. This corresponds to a 1500 bar injection pressure higher than current series systems.
The injection behavior (injection quantity and rate) of the injector at different injection pressures, fuels and control times are examined with a course of injection and quantity indication (Injection Analyzer, IAV).
The actual spray pattern can be made visible and analyzed in a pressure chamber.
With this, the chambers ambient conditions (pressure and temperature) can be generated, such as the point at the time of injection in a turbocharged diesel engine. Using a high-speed camera and advanced laser metrology macroscopic spray sizes (penetration, spray angle, volume and diameter) but can also be microscopic sizes (diameter and velocity of a spray droplet) of different fuels studied. Here statements of the mixture formation and the associated emissions and fuel consumption can be made.

Outlook:

On a single-cylinder engine, the injection system is applied and examined the potential for emission and fuel consumption reduction.
